Cannon beach is a fun place to take kids for the day or make a weekend trip. It’s fairly close to Portland Oregon and easy to get to. If you plan to make a day trip and have your photos in the evening, make sure kids are fed and have a relaxed day while visiting the beach before your photo shoot. For example, don’t try a new strenuous hike. Instead, play on the beach in the afternoon and get dinner beforehand. Tired, hungry kids will not enjoy getting photos done. With a little planning and knowing how to prepare your kids for your photo shoot, it will go a long way.
Bring extra clothes, wipes, and towels. This will help you clean up your kids before your photo shoot. If you plan on staying for a weekend, have your photo shoot day a relaxed day. Be flexible with the weather
If the forecast calls for a downpour on your big day, it is best to move it. However, it does not have to be sunny or completely dry out to get incredible photos. Sometimes just moving the time of day can take care of any inclement weather concerns. Some of my favorite photos are created on overcast days.
Dress in layers and know what the temperatures will be the day of your photos. That brings me to one of the most important tips on how to get those beautiful photos; what to wear for your family photos.
Know what to wear
As I mentioned, make sure you dress in layers just in case it gets chilly, even in the summer months. The last thing you want is to be cold during your photo shoot, especially kids.

Enjoy your time together
I do not have any expectations of your family during your photo shoot other than to have fun. Let kids run, play, and get a little dirty. It’s ok, your photos will show huge smiles on their faces and you’ll look back on this time with happy memories. Even older kids need to be allowed to be themselves and have fun. Whether your kids are rambunctious or quiet, you will love the images that are created by letting go and having fun.
