On this blog, I will share a maternity photo shoot where I was a featured artist in Bold, Emotional, Colorful, and a wonderful family I have photographed multiple times. They played on the beach, climbed the beautiful dunes, and had a blast being together at the beach!
Cape Kiwanda Maternity Session
A coastal photo shoot is ideal for adventurous, free-spirited families who love the beauty of the PNW. Further, Cape Kiwanda is one of the gorgeous beaches along the coast due to its vast blue crashing waves, giant burnt-colored dunes, and large rock formations.
It is easy to get to, only a few hours from Portland, and has quick beach access. You can get as venturesome as you want or walk the beach. Either way, your photos will be unique and beautiful.
You and your family can make a day trip or plan a weekend to explore the beach and small town before you have your photos taken.
In addition, if you go during mid-September, you can catch the surf competition. It’s so much fun! Grab lunch and a beer at Pelican Brewery and watch the surfers enter the ocean.
Moreover, the vibe on the beach is chill, and everyone is always friendly. It’s a great weekend getaway and a fun family activity.
The Best Time of Year for Beach Family Photos
At first, you may think Summer is the only time to head to the beach for family photos. However, this family was photographed in September. There was a drizzle towards the end of the hour-extended photo shoot, but otherwise, very comfortable weather.
You know the PNW weather is pretty unpredictable. So, with some planning, you would be surprised that any time of year can work. I photographed families in January, and the weather was phenomenal.
