Cannon Beach Family Photos

Cannon Beach is popular for good reason. Haystack Rock creates an iconic backdrop, and there’s plenty of room for families to walk, play, and spread out without feeling crowded.

Even though it’s one of the busiest beaches on the Oregon Coast, I know quieter areas nearby that work beautifully for family sessions while still giving you those classic coastal views.

Hug Point at Low Tide

If your family loves exploring, Hug Point is one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. At low tide you’ll find sea caves, waterfalls, tide pools, and dramatic rock formations that naturally keep kids engaged.

Because this beach changes with the tides, I always check conditions before recommending it. When the timing is right, it offers one of the most unique experiences anywhere on the coast.

Arch Cape Beach Sessions

If you’re looking for a quieter beach with fewer crowds, Arch Cape is a wonderful option. Just south of Cannon Beach, it offers wide stretches of sand, beautiful coastal views, and a more peaceful atmosphere. It’s especially nice for families who want a slower-paced session where kids have plenty of room to run and explore without a lot of distractions.

Manzanita

Manzanita offers one of the widest beaches on the northern Oregon Coast, making it a beautiful choice for relaxed family sessions. When to Schedule Family Photos on the Oregon Coast

The Oregon Coast is beautiful year-round, but timing makes a big difference.

Spring: Landscapes are starting to bloom, temperatures getting warmer, and you can avoid the summer crowds
Summer: Longer evenings, softer light, and warmer temperatures.
Fall: Fewer crowds, moody skies, and stunning coastal tones
Evenings: Typically the calmest light and best conditions for families

Cloudy days are actually ideal for photography here, and a little wind is completely normal. I plan sessions around conditions so everything feels relaxed and unhurried.

What to Wear for Oregon Coast Family Photos

Neutral, soft tones photograph beautifully against the sand and ocean, and bold, rich colors can shine here too. Think layers, texture, and comfortable pieces that allow movement, especially for kids. Bare feet are my favorite or neutral shoes work best on the beach and keep the look timeless and relaxed.

That’s completely normal for the coast and often ideal for photos. I plan sessions with flexibility and experience in coastal conditions.

Do you help choose the beach location?

Absolutely. I guide you based on tides, crowds, and what will work best for your family.

How far in advance should we book?

Oregon Coast sessions tend to book ahead, especially during summer and fall. Reaching out early is recommended if you have travel dates planned.

Can extended family join us?

Yes! Just let me know so we can plan the session accordingly.

What if it rains on the Oregon Coast?

The Oregon Coast is known for changing weather, but don’t let the forecast worry you. Cloudy skies often create beautiful, soft light for photographs. If the weather calls for heavy rain or unsafe conditions, we’ll simply adjust our plans. I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session so you don’t have to stress about making that decision yourself.

Can we bring our dog to our Oregon Coast family photo session?

Absolutely! Dogs are part of the family, and many Oregon Coast beaches are dog-friendly. If you’d like to include your pup, I’ll recommend locations where they’ll have room to explore while creating beautiful family photographs.
