The most frequently asked question I get from families who have recently booked their family photos with me is, “what do we wear for our families photography session?”
I will share a few quick and simple tips that you can use to help you prepare your wardrobe for your upcoming family photos!
Coordinate but don’t match. If you are all looking the same, your eyes will be drawn to your clothing, not to you. I want the focus to be about your connection with your family not your clothing. Click here to check out my Pinterest board for wardrobe inspiration!
Colors: muted, neutral, and jewel tones are flattering to skin and photograph beautifully indoor and outdoor. Neon colors and logos, in my opinion, never photograph well and can be super distracting. It can also leave an undesirable color cast on your skin. It’s just as important for your shoes also! Large logos, bright colors, and dirty shoes will take away from your photos. Sometimes I will even ask a family to just take them off, I love that it doesn’t take anything away from the photos, it just looks naturally relaxed.
Wear something you are comfortable in. It shows when you are wearing something you just can’t wait to get take off once you get home. It’s better to opt for something that you could wear all day, especially for kids. They will have the hardest time with this. When they are free to be themselves and feel good in their clothing they will enjoy the time we have together and you will be glad they were happy!
