Newborn photography in your home is one of those things as a mom of younger kids I look back on and wish I would have done. With my first born, we traveled for newborn photos. Although I absolutely love them, I was stressed. I remember sweating and feeling anxious about being on time, if I forgot something, and just driving in the car with him.
The first few weeks may feel overwhelming and that is ok.
What I would have done to have our photographer come to us for his photos. I may have still felt some overwhelm as you do in those newborn days. However, I would’ve loved having a newborn photographer come to me.
Your first handful of car rides, packing up all the things you need for your newborn, and getting yourself ready can feel like a lot. Well, that is because it is right?!
On this blog, you will discover what a newborn photography session is like with your first baby in the comfort of your home.
You can take your time adjusting at home with your newborn. You do not have a time crunch with lifestyle newborn photography. I have photographed babies up to three months old, due to lock down with the pandemic, we had to wait. Yet, this families newborn photos were wonderful and parents could relax knowing we didn’t have to rush. Last, there are no reason your newborn has to be 10 days or younger for them to be sleepy. It is just not necessary, which brings to me the next topic.
You will not have to wait for your baby to be sleepy or asleep for photos. Actually, they can be in your arms the entire session if they want. Basically, your little one is leading the entire photo shoot. I know the shots I need to grab that will be a must but they do not have to be in a certain order.
I start out by gently guiding you and your partner, then we just let things go from there. If your baby gets fussy, there is more than enough time for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggling. I will encourage you the entire session to take your time and do not feel rushed.
I do not use any props such as beans bags or baskets. I will prepare you well before your newborn photography session about what to wear for newborn photos, what to expect during your session, and how to prepare.
As I mentioned above, I really do let your baby lead the session. Whether they are alert, sleepy, or only want to be in your arms that is ok. I have had some babies who were a little fussy and needed to nurse a lot and others that were just content with anything.
I will strive to capture your connection with your child and spouse, the raw emotions of having a new baby, and how your life really is at that time.
Do you want newborn photographer come to you and have a relaxed session. Contact me and I would love to get to know you more.
Hello I’m Jaime!
My transition into motherhood was difficult.
After giving birth to my first child, my beautiful son, I experienced postpartum depression. He was perfection but I was in a dark and confusing place. With a lot of support and patience, I got through it.
When I picked up my camera, I felt human again and it was my sacred creative place. Now, I am honored to photograph families from a space of compassion, understanding, and no judgements.
I believe there has to be community within motherhood–it’s too much to bear on our own. I am here to show you how incredibly beautiful you are now, no matter how chaotic motherhood is.
