The long wait is finally over and you’re finally meeting your newborn baby, it is an exciting and precious time! A lifestyle newborn photography session takes place in the comfort of your own home and is a “go with the flow” type of session, which is one reason I love lifestyle newborn photography. My goal during a lifestyle newborn session is to be relaxed and embrace all that comes with having a newborn!
I’ll wash my hands when I arrive, I know that seems like a no brainer but it’s something that stressed me out as a new parent. So, I get it-my hands will be washed when I get there. Then, I’ll take a quick tour of your home to find the areas of your home with the best natural light. I typically take many photos in the master bedroom on the bed, babies room, and/or living room but it really depends on the lighting available.
You’re in the comfort of your own home so there is no need to pack up baby, bags, and get little one into a car seat and come to me. I come to you! I encourage you to let things be as they are. So if baby needs to eat, feed them or if baby is fussy that’s ok too! It’s about capturing everything about having a newborn, so I love embracing all of that!
Those little lashes, flaky skin, tiny toes, umbilical cord belly button, and fuzzy newborn hair is gone before you know it and being able to look back on those moments are priceless and precious.
I do not use any props. I want to keep the focus on newborn and the connection with the family, your gallery will be filled with simple yet emotive photographs that you will treasure for a lifetime!
I very rarely even touch your baby during your session unless I am swaddling baby for you or helping you reposition into better light. Babies want to be with mom or dad and if that’s how they are most comfortable they can stay there the entire time. I find this takes the pressure off new parents to feel like their newborn need s to perform a pose or have to wait long periods of time for baby to become relaxed again after being handled too frequently.
I typically take about 2 hours to complete the entire session, it allows time for feedings, diaper changes, and anything that might come up during your session. I am there as long as it takes to get a great variety of beautiful photographs.
When I arrive I will become buddies with your other kids and fur babies! It’s important that I do this so I am no longer a stranger and when we are buddies they are more likely to follow some gentle directions from me. I also find that starting with siblings first is helpful as they can lose interest quickly and that’s ok! We start with so I’m sure I get those important photographs with them interacting with family and newborn.
