If you’re anything like me, I was so excited for the birth of my children but having newborn photos done right after giving birth felt overwhelming. I had just brought my baby home and now I have to get my family ready for photos?! Ah! I’m sure you can relate! Here’s the thing though, the birth of a child is monumental and deserves to be documented! When you hire a photographer that can help you have a relaxed newborn photography session (wink, wink) it can make all the difference. Your family will relax, enjoy it, and take in all the newness of your beautiful new baby. Oh hey! I’m Jaime and I am a newborn photographer in Vancouver Washington. I live for creating photos with real connections and love families!
It’s always an honor to be hired for newborn photography sessions. This families session took place in their home in Vancouver Washington, all of the photos were in two rooms; the master bedroom and nursery. It was about an 90 minutes from the time I arrived to when we finished. First, we caught up on how baby and big brother were doing and of course how they were all transitioning to a family of four. We headed up to the master bedroom to start taking photos, I had everyone sit up on the head of the bed for a family snuggle. Brother was still warming up to me a bit so we moved onto a few photos of baby sister.
If you are looking for photography with posed newborns I am not your girl but if you want your baby to just be completely comfortable and free to do whatever they please I am definitely for you. Mom laid baby on bed and because she is about 2 months old here she was very alert for photos! She has the sweetest disposition, soft pouty lips, and the cutest little double chin. Babies that are a little older have had more time to get a little chubby, it’s one of the best things about photographing a newborn that is a few months old. My daughter is 8 months old right now, my favorite thing to do to her is nibble on her chubby arms, legs, and cheeks! It is mommy bliss!
It was time for some photos of just Dad and kids. While big brother went to find his favorite stuffed animal to show me, I snapped a few of baby and dad alone. There is something incredibly wonderful about watching a dad take in the details of his new baby. Now bother was really warming up to me and we started to have a lot of fun, I knew it was time to grab some special photos of brother with sister!
With big brother having fun checking out his new sister, I was able to grab some photos of genuine connection between the two of them. He loved looking at her on the bed and the clicking of my camera made him curious to what I was doing. He hopped down, checked out my camera (he even got to push the button for a few photos) and mom was ready to love on baby. One of my favorite photos to take at newborn photography sessions is mom feeding her new baby. Whether she chooses to nurse or bottle feed, they are both moments that are meant to be remembered. I love moms glowing smile!
We were starting to wrap up the session, we moved into the nursery to take the last photos. Baby was sleepy after a nursing so she was content in moms arms while we finished. If I can, I love to take families into babies nursery, I think its just as special to remember! I hear from a lot of families that I photograph that they haven’t finished the babies room yet so they feel as though we shouldn’t use the room for photos, I encourage them to anyways as it is part of your story! The imperfect parts that are photographed keep it interesting and unique. I love real and honest photographs.
I couldn’t help but to grab a few more details of baby before I left of her tiny hands, feet, and sweet little ears. I swear sometimes I can smell babies through photos! To me, every newborn is precious and perfect.
