If you are expecting your baby in the early spring, winter is the best time to book your snow maternity shoot. You are in an incredibly wonderful time in your life plus you have a unique opportunity to have your beautiful bump photographed in the pretty snow. It is a crisp, clean, and beautiful landscape.
On this blog, I will share what to wear, when to book your shoot, and what to expect for your family in your maternity shoot.
This is likely one of your first questions for your shoot. First, you’ll want to avoid oversized dresses and tops. You won’t be able to show off your belly. Look for a long sleeve fitted dress like this pretty pink one mom-to-be is wearing. This mama nailed her wardrobe for her shoot. She is kept warm with the long dress with sleeves, the faux fur shawl and she rocked some snow boots under her gown.
Second, choose a color that will pop against the white snow. Avoid white or cream colors.
Last, be comfortable. If you wear something you aren’t feeling beautiful in it will show so try on what you plan to wear before your shoot day. Check out this blog for more on what to wear.
Schedule your maternity shoot around 28-35 weeks in your pregnancy. After 35 weeks you are really tired and not feeling your absolute best. The last month of your pregnancy you are all about putting those feet up and nesting-not taking photos.
However, if you haven’t had them yet and are considering them-do them! You will regret not having them done, you are doing a monumental task! It deserves to be photographed, cherished, and looked back on with your kids.
Tip: be flexible with your maternity shoot dates for the most ideal weather. You can typically get better weather in a week or so if you need to reschedule due to inclement weather.
If you already have kids, be patient with them. They are not expected to act and behave a certain way, they can relax and just be themselves. Moreover, with the chilly temperatures they will need extra patience from you while we work through your maternity shoot. In addition, make sure they are dressed warm and they are encourage to take warming breaks while I photograph you.
Next, include your partner-they have a special place in your pregnancy journey and your kids will love remembering seeing the love between you both as they get older. Check out this blog on how to prepare your kids for family photos.
