Family Portraits in the Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge is one of my favorite places to venture out for fun outdoor activities with my family and for family photography sessions. It’s a unique gem to the Pacific Northwest. The waterfalls, vistas, and river are breathtaking; the drive alone is zen and the views are phenomenal. Can you believe this amazing location for family photos is only about 40 minutes from Vancouver Washington? We chose this location for this family because they love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the boys love running around playing. It took them a few moments to warm up but after a quick snack and some play they were ready to have fun getting their family photos done!

We started with a little adventure to check out the location, the kids got their wiggles out everyone started to warm up to the camera. It’s fun & easy to get your families photos taken when you can just hang out and interact with one another. Some gentle guided posing happened later but the boys got to play with dad , snuggle with mom, and chase one another around. They are sweet little boys.

Next, everyone came in for a family hug and got to warm up with one another, it was a beautiful evening with some cool wind. The boys were troopers and once they warmed up again, they were off onto another adventure to check more of the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge! I think they enjoyed seeing the birds flying right over us!

While the boys were busy watching the birds flying over us, mom and dad got to have a moment alone. This is one of my “must-have” shots, most parents haven’t had their photos taken alone in years. I also love taking mom away for a moment for a photo of just her. I have only a handful of photos of my mom. As moms we are typically the “photographer” in the family so we are not in front of the camera enough. Your kids need to have these of you! What I would do to have a photo like this of my mom today, this photo of her is gorgeous!

It was time to grab the boys over again for some photos with mom and dad! Dads always make it fun and I adore how the boys are sweet with mom. I can still hear their sweet giggles while Dad grabbed them both from behind and tickled their tummies. The scenery with mom and boys is breathtaking, I think I might have to have my families photos here also!

It was time to wrap up this families photos up but not without a few individual shots of the boys, some details, and more family snuggles! We walked down the huge rock we were standing on to check out more of the Columbia River Gorge beautiful scenery. It was one of the most beautiful places I have photographed a family, I am really looking forward to going there again!
