Having a baby is a monumental event and one of the many things on your to-do list when baby arrives is getting photos of your newborn. There is a lot of styles and photographers to choose from, so how will you know who and what kind of newborn shoot is right for your family? On this blog, I will share what in home lifestyle newborn photography is and how to know if its a good fit for you and your family.
It is a photo shoot of your newborn or newborns and your family in the comfort of your own home. You will typically be photographed in your master bedroom, nursery, and living area for the majority of your session. There is no need to have a sparkling clean home, just picking up or a quick declutter will do. You and your family will not be posed but gently guided through out the session.
Your family will feel at ease. There is no pressure to pose baby in any awkward poses in baskets or bean bags and your family will be snuggling baby most of the session. Moreover, your newborn can be in the comfort of your arms the entire session if they want.
I recommend within the first month after their birth and schedule it before baby arrives. You do not have to feel rushed to have them done immediately. I have photographed babies as old as three months but it can be very helpful to at least have it booked so you don’t forget.
Bringing home baby can be chaotic and it’s a huge adjustment, take some time to settle in if you need.
You want all of your family to be in comfortable clothing while being photographed. Choose colors that are neutral or soft blues/greens. Coordinate and do not match. Check out my Pinterest board for wardrobe inspiration!
A simple cream onesie for baby and neutral colored swaddle is perfect. Pick 2-3 colors that complement one another and spread that out within your family. Muslin, soft lace, ribbed, linens; material and textures add visual interest.
Flowy dresses, skirts, or soft sweaters with your fav pair of jeans/pants are flattering and comfortable for mom and daughters.
Soft shirts, sweaters, and jeans/joggers are great for dad and brothers.
Make sure you avoid neon colors, baseball caps, sneakers (barefoot is perfect), socks, characters/graphics, clothing that doesn’t fit, and anything that you do not feel comfortable in.
You can reach out now and schedule it. Contact me here and we can plan your upcoming photo shoot. If you already had your little one, it is not too late.
“Jaime came into our home to do a newborn session recently. She was so patient with our toddler and made him feel so comfortable with her taking his picture. After just giving birth and being exhausted, I wanted an easy & laid back environment for this shoot and she totally delivered! She is so kind, professional, easy going and fantastic to work with. Our pictures turned out amazing and we will cherish them for a lifetime!” –Savanah D.
