When I had my first baby, my son, I was a bit of a basket case #hormones. When we had our newborn photos I was stressing about getting there and all it might involve when we arrived. I had no idea what to expect, how long it would take, or what to bring. I was also starting to realize I was slipping into postpartum depression, which made it even more complicated for me. Fast forward a few years later, I learned about in home newborn photography. I was in love!
I will share 5 reasons to love in home newborn photography and why I wished I would’ve known about it when I was pregnant with my son.
This is by far the number one reason to love it! You do not have to commute to a studio, pack all of your baby’s things, diaper bags, your personal bags, make-up, outfits, and all of the other hundred things that come along with having a newborn. Isn’t is mind boggling how much stuff a tiny human requires?
You and your family can get ready at home, have your photographer come to you, and not worry about getting your baby, let alone other kids if you have them, in the car and on time to your photo shoot.
Your home is the studio and all of the unique things about your home will be incorporated. You’re individuality shows in your photos as you are photographed in your master bedroom, living area, and the nursery you spent time on getting ready for baby’s arrival.
Furthermore, a studio will have a similar setting for most of their families newborn photos. They are beautiful but I really love seeing everyones individuality and photographing them in their most comfortable environment. Their home.
Every family with a new baby experiences a messy home, even the tidiest families cannot escape the need to let dishes go over some much needed sleep. I get it and my home is still a mess, my kids are 2 and 5! ha!
I encourage families to just declutter a few areas of the master bedroom, living area, nursery, and once in a while the kitchen. I help moms make their bed when I arrive and fluff their pillows on the couch. Also, I take a quick judgment free tour of your other rooms to see if there are any spots that offer beautiful light and help tidy those areas too.
What to wear is the most often asked question I get asked from moms before their newborn photo shoot. I encourage them to keep it simple, casual, and most important is to be comfortable! Having a baby can be uncomfortable enough, especially if you are recovering from c section.

No baskets, bean bags, or baby being posed into awkward positions. Your family can relax knowing that you will not be asked for perfect smiles or posing. You are just snuggling your family and baby while I photograph you and your family.
Most of the time, we are talking about your new baby, newborn life, and motherhood. Think of me as your friend coming for a visit to see your newest addition to the family.
If I would have know about the simplicity of an in home newborn photo shoot when I was pregnant with my son I would have jumped on it! Although I do absolutely love my newborn photos with him and treasure them dearly, I know how hard that was for me that day and I don’t want that for moms I work with. You deserve to have someone help and cater to you for your photos.
