What to Expect For Your Indoor Family Photo Session – Vancouver Washington Family Photographer
Your kids are screaming, running up and down the hallway, your partner is trying to wrestle one of them to put their shirt on, moms still brushing her teeth and trying to get ready right when the photographer arrives.
Sound familiar?
Of course it does-that is life with kids and you know what? It’s perfect!
I want you to know that I get it and photographing your family as they really are is like the icing on the cake for me! Real, genuine photographs is what I hope to capture for you for the next hour that I am with you.
There are a few things I need you to know before your shoot day!

A pre session questionnaire prior to your shoot day will help me get to know all of your family members a little better. It’s just a short questionnaire that tells me about what makes your family special. Like the Melvin family pictured below, when they aren’t camping or going to a Timbers game, they are usually at home playing with their boys, listening to music and enjoying time with one another.

It’s ok that your home isn’t spotless or even cleaned. Declutter if you can, put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, clear water bottles from night stands, and maybe wipe down your counter tops. It should be about that simple. Would it make you feel better if I told you I am looking at cat barf on my couch as I write this? I am a judgment free zone friends.

Wear something comfortable and if your kids want to run around in their Spiderman undies or diapers that cool with me. I actually think it can be really adorable and a memory worth photographing.

I’ll ask you to turn off all of your lights! I’ll take a quick peak around your home to find the best sources of natural light since I am a natural light photographer and I do not use any flash. Some of my favorite areas in a home to take photos are in the kitchen, living room, kids bedrooms, and master bedroom.

I’ll become buddies with your kids first. This is a great time for mom and dad to just let me get to know their kids. We won’t tell them this but they really do run the show. But, if I can have fun with them and get to know them they are so much more likely to enjoy the session!

Turn on some music! Whatever you like, play it. Music can help everyone relax and just take in the session and really enjoy it!
