I'm Jaime!
If your baby is already two, three, or even five weeks old and you’re just now searching for what newborn photos look like at 2-6 weeks, take a deep breath.
You didn’t miss your window.
Many parents contact me feeling nervous. They worry they waited too long. Some needed extra time to recover from a C-section. Others spent days or weeks in the NICU. And many were simply adjusting to life with a newborn.
However, newborn photos at 2–6 weeks are still beautiful. In fact, most of my clients book during this exact stage.
If you’re looking for a calm, baby-led approach, you can learn more about my work as a Portland newborn photographer here.
There isn’t one perfect week. There’s only the week that works for your family.

The early “5–14 day” window works well for heavily posed studio sessions. During that stage, babies sleep deeply and curl easily.
However, I photograph baby-led, lifestyle sessions. That approach works beautifully beyond the first two weeks.
At 2–3 weeks, babies still sleep well. They swaddle comfortably. They curl into your chest. And yes, they still give those slow newborn yawns.
By 4–6 weeks, babies feel more settled. Their cheeks fill out slightly. They stretch more. They begin to focus on your face.
As a result, you often see more engagement and connection.

Newborn photos at 2–6 weeks blend sleepy moments with gentle awareness.
You may see:
Peaceful swaddled images
Tiny fingers wrapped around yours
Soft yawns
Baby studying mom’s face
Eye contact with dad
Slightly fuller cheeks
Although babies grow quickly, they still look brand new at this stage. They simply feel more comfortable in the world.
That comfort shows in your images.

I follow your baby’s cues.
If your baby wants to eat, we pause. Moreover, ifthey stay awake, we lean into connection. Last, if they drift off, we swaddle and snuggle.
I do not force poses. I do not rush moments. Instead, I document what naturally unfolds. Because of this approach, newborn photos at 2–6 weeks feel relaxed and authentic. Your baby can wear a swaddle, a simple outfit, or just a diaper wrapped in your arms. The goal is not perfection. The goal is memory of this special time in your life.

Many parents actually prefer waiting a little longer.
First, feeding often feels more established. Second, moms usually feel physically stronger. Additionally, siblings adjust to the new routine. As a result, the home feels calmer. Most importantly, parents feel more like themselves. And that confidence shows in photographs.

During COVID, I could not photograph newborn sessions for several months.
One family reached out when their baby was already three months old. They worried they had missed their chance. We scheduled the session anyway. The baby stayed alert and expressive. The siblings laughed and interacted. The parents relaxed and enjoyed the experience. When they saw their gallery, they loved their gallery of images. They realized, they had not missed anything. They had simply documented a different stage and that session reminded me that there is no deadline on memory.
Most families choose an in-home session. That way, you stay comfortable and relaxed. You do not pack diaper bags or rush out the door. Instead, you stay in your own space. I guide you through everything. Additionally, I bring your coffee or tea order with me. Studio sessions are available. However, most parents love the ease of staying home.

No. Newborn photos at 4 weeks still capture tiny details and meaningful connection. Many of my clients schedule during this stage.
Yes. Babies at this age still settle beautifully in a swaddle. They also enjoy being held close. You can see a full newborn cinematic film here.
Your healing matters. Your baby’s health matters. Once you feel ready and your baby is home, we schedule your session. You have not missed your opportunity.
Ideally, families reserve their date during pregnancy. However, if your baby is already here, reach out anyway. I photograph newborn photos at 2–6 weeks regularly. I would love to serve your family.
