Do you need to know when to book your newborn photos? If so, you are in the right place. This is an exciting time in your life and I want to congratulate you!
Whether you just had your baby or you’re expecting your baby’s arrival soon, now is the time to start thinking about scheduling your newborn photos.
Learn the best time to book your newborn photo shoot and how to schedule it. I will guide you so that you can relax and know you are in good hands for your future newborn session.
I recommend booking your newborn photos when you are in your second trimester. It is a time when you are likely feeling your best and you can check that off your list of things to do to prepare for your baby.
Moreover, you can feel good about having more than enough time to prepare for your session. For example, getting your wardrobe ready for your family for the day of your photos.
Upon booking, we will choose a tentative date. I recommend choosing your due date and if baby arrives before or after that date, I can easily accommodate you and move your photo shoot a few days or weeks if needed.

The best time is within a few weeks or a month of your babies birth. However, I have photographed babies up to three months old.
I encourage families to have a few days or weeks to take it all in, then we can move forward with your newborn session.
There is no need to feel rushed. As some say, you have to do newborn photos within the first ten days. I disagree. You can get incredibly meaningful photos with babies that are over a few weeks of age.
You can see a baby who was about three months of age for their newborn photos in this article: Newborn Photography Vancouver Washington.
The best time of day for your newborn photos is approximately mid morning.
The light in your home is likely the most flattering at that time. Also, if you have older siblings they are done eating breakfast and not overly tired from the day. Furthermore, newborns seem to do well at this time also.
It will give you adequate time to eat, get ready, and not feel like it’s cutting right into the middle of your day.
Newborn sessions are approximately two hours or less and go very quickly. This time allows you to not feel rushed for diaper changes, feedings, and snack breaks if needed for kids or yourself.
No, it is not too late to book a session. As I mentioned, I have photographed newborns up to three months old. My approach to newborn photography is relaxed, I do not use props or baskets that could have required a very sleepy baby at just a few days or weeks old.
Your baby can be in the comfort of your arms, swaddled or not swaddled, awake, or sleepy. Whatever makes them happy, I want to do what they are comfortable with.
In addition, I encourage mothers to take their time to adjust to their new lifestyle with baby before we do your session. Take a few days or even weeks to settle into being home if you need.
Some families need a little extra time to settle in, others want to have them within a few days of arriving home. Whatever your preference, know that you will get beautiful photos of your baby and family.

It is often the simple, spontaneous, and sweet moments that are most precious to photograph.
The feeling of excitement weeks before you meet your little one for the very first time as you hold your beautiful belly. Your newborns tiny fingers wrapped around yours and the feeling of the world stopping while you gaze into that tiny new face.
These are the fleeting moments you don’t want to forget and you know time is passing so quickly. I want to show you through your photographs how incredibly beautiful your family is just as they are. Nothing stiff or fake-all real interactions with your family captured and ready for you to frame on your walls to cherish.
“She was so patient with our toddler and made him feel so comfortable with her taking his picture. After just giving birth and being exhausted, I wanted an easy & laid back environment for this shoot and she totally delivered! She is so kind, professional, easy going and fantastic to work with. Our pictures turned out amazing and we will cherish them for a lifetime!” -Savanah D.
