When it comes to family photos, you may wonder if you missed your opportunity if you didn’t get them done in the fall. Simply, the answer is no. Today on the blog, I will give you winter family photo ideas so that you can feel confident to book your family photo shoot any time of year. Even in the middle of winter!
Even when the landscape lays dormant, you can still get a beautiful location for your family photo shoot. Will it look different than it does in the summer? Yes. Is that completely ok? Of course! If your family loves the beach, book your photo shoot at a local beach or head to the coast. If you would love an urban setting because the year before you had your photos indoors, go for it!
The possibilities for amazing locations does not end when the weather gets cold. This family pictured here choose Cottonwood beach in Washougal Washington and they got lucky with the bright white snow on the beach! Moreover, even if the snow did not make an appearance, this location is still amazing.
With a little preparation, your kids will enjoy your photo shoot, even when its chilly! Make sure you check out my blog on 5 tips for preparing your kids for family photos.
So you’re not a fan of the winter? That’s ok. You can bring your family photo shoot into the comfort of your own home. Get snuggly on your couch, bake cookies, drink hot cocoa, dance around your living room, or play games. Usually having a simple activity to do is more than enough to get your fam comfortable in front of my camera quickly. Then, your photo shoot will take on a life of its own. Which is exactly what I want for your photos.
There is nothing as unique and special as your own home. Further, no commute and it’s where your family is most comfortable. Oh and don’t forget about your fur babies! 🙂
What is the best part of winter? Snow! In addition, it creates a crisp, clean, beautiful backdrop to your family photos. Your kids will love playing in it and looking back on your fun family adventure!
A bonus of living in the pacific northwest is that you typically do not have to drive far to find it in the winter. If you have your heart set on snow, as your photographer, I can recommend great locations and keep a close watch on the local weather if snow is in the forecast. Sometimes we get lucky and get a winter wonderland close to home but there are many locations within about an hours drive as well.
To recap, if you have been thinking about family photos and did not get to them this fall, that is ok! Reach out to me and let’s connect. I would love to help you plan your family photos.
So, what location would you choose for your family photo shoot: outdoors, snow, or in your cozy home?
I look forward to planning with you and helping you every step of the way.
