Welcome to the 2021 family photo superlatives! For the last blog of 2021 I wanted to make it a memorable one. This is my way of saying thank you AND to share some of my favorite photo shoots and some of the most memorable photos. This is going to be fun, silly, laid back-just like all of my family photos sessions.
Is your family featured in this blog? Read on to see! There were so many I wanted to share but these are a handful that really stuck out to me. Here goes!
When I asked this family to walk away from me and head up this small hill, I knew I would love this photo but when I converted into black and white my jaw hit the ground! I was so in love with this and I hoped that they loved it as much as I did. This was late Fall, we had to reschedule quite a few times due to weather and illness. They were such troopers However, the wait was well worth it! Would you agree? I can see this as a canvas or a large framed print over their mantle.
A late summer evening in the Columbia River Gorge and this family really took my wardrobe guide to heart. In sum, we got a phenomenal image. I say “we” because I firmly believe its a team effort between mom and I. If you take a little time to be prepared, it will show in your photos and the results are gorgeous! The Gorge is one of my favorite locations to take families for their sessions. Can you imagine your next session with your kids here?
I would like to take credit for this one but I can’t, this was all moms idea and I loved it! It’s been an honor to photograph this family three times and they always bring the fun and are super chill! This was a beautiful summer night, after the insane PNW heatwave we had, that was crazy!
As Fall continued to progress, I thought we would never get a break in the rainy weather for this sweet couple that was expecting their first son-he was born on his grandmothers birthday recently, how fun is that? I get to meet their little man after Christmas and I cant wait. Stay tuned…
The photos speak for themselves right? These little ones are about the same age as my kids and they really remind me of them, that might be why I chose them for sweetest siblings I guess. 😉 Check out this blog to see how much these kiddos have grown in a year. I just love this family!
What more can I say? It’s twins! These sweet peas belong to a phenomenal young couple who I absolutely adore. I was so excited when I learned they were expecting twins last spring. Thank you L family for letting me photograph these sweet babies.
Laughter, spinning, dancing, family hugs, and some good old fashion fart jokes. Seriously, my cheeks hurt after all the laughter that was had here with this family. I always love photographing this family and you can see how much fun they have together in their photos.
Wait-I thought you were a family photographer? Well, I am and once in awhile I do brand shoots. When Jen asked me to help update her photos I jumped on the chance to hang out with her for a few hours and I had so much fun! I love being around those who exude good vibes and love their life to the fullest. You’ll want to get to know her more and her story here.
“My perspective, “my lens,” is shaped by a decision to quit my job to travel the world after my fiancé died of cancer when he was just 40. After he died, I changed literally everything about my life.” -Jen Nilsson
This sweet couple could really have two awards. First, for the sweetest expecting couple and for the best maternity gown! Mom-to-be really “understood the assignment” and rocked this beautiful red gown in the forest. Tip: if you plan to have your photo shoot around a lot of greenery, wear anything BUT green. The contrast is stunning! See what I mean here? Ahhh love it.
Is it cheating that the best dressed goes to a family photographer? Nah! Refer to this photoshoot for some wardrobe inspiration for your next family photos. They hit the bulls eye with the colors, texture, and prints. I absolutely love Spring for family sessions, I often wonder, why Fall gets all the glory for the “it season” for family pictures? What do you think the best time of year for family photos is? More on the best time for family photos here.
If you follow me at all, you probably know I have a huge soft spot for animals so I had to share Huxley! I mean, he is not only cute but he’s a lab. Where are my Labrador lovers?
The sun was shining, this family was laid back, and they rocked their newborn session! How? They really just were themselves and on my end-they seemed incredibly comfortable and happy to have me in their home. The most memorable moment was that they let their oldest daughter just be herself and I always appreciate that so much, that is what I strive to photograph. The real you!
The Columbia River Gorge in the Fall-how could you go wrong for this location for family photos!? Answer is: you can’t. It is always beautiful and showing off in one way or another. This time, it was all about the PNW fall foliage. Plus, this family nailed their wardrobe! I say it over and over-prints, texture, muted or jewel color tones, and something flowy for mom., it adds movement to the photos-which is breathtaking! I think their Christmas cards will be stunning! Don’t cha think?
From the bottom of my tired mom heart, thank you a million! The referrals, social media engagement, opening my emails, sharing my website, and just encouraging me. It means the world and I cant wait to see what is in store for 2022!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year friends!
