I have a huge heart for pets. I don’t like just calling them pets, they are so much more than that; they are a family member and are important to incorporate into your family memoirs. We recently lost our yellow lab/shapei, Jack. We have a huge void in our family and miss him so much. He taught me a few valuable life life sessions. First, live in the moment. Second, love. Third, take the picture. I was so incredibly thankful for all of the photos we have of him and us to look back on our incredible memories together. I look at them often and it was one of the most happiest times in my entire life.
He is greatly missed.
So my friend, if you have a family dog please have them be a part of your family photos, I promise you will look back with so much love. Here are a few tips on how to prepare your fur-babe for your upcoming session!
Let your dog get a little exercise prior to your session. I know you’re getting ready yourself and likely not worried too much about Fido but a quick little walk or throwing a ball around can get them to be more relaxed for your photos!
Yes you, not your dog. 😉 Dogs are intuitive! If you are feeling stressed they may also. Let your pet just be themselves and I can do the rest. Remember that things will not go exactly as you plan and that’s the good news, just embrace this time and know that your photos will capture your pet and your family’s uniqueness when you are able to relax and be yourself.
If you take your pet to the groomer on a regular basis, you can schedule that close to your family photos. If your pet doesn’t see a groomer no worries, just a quick brush and clean their sweet face is all you need to do!
If your furry loved one has a favorite treat or toy bring it or leave it out for them to have. As long as it’s not distracting, I think it can be very helpful for them to have their loved squeaky toy or have a treat.
Family photography can be unpredictable but that is the beautiful part about it. I love the flow and spontaneity of family photos and your dog will be a part if that fun too. Just relax, be yourselves, and have fun. Your dog will follow your lead.
I can’t wait to meet your family and beloved family dog!
