Why Maternity Photography is Important

Pregnancy is one of the most precious times in a woman’s life. Ok, ok, it also has its downs-like restless leg syndrome, all day nausea, and stretch marks. Who coined the term “morning sickness” obviously never experienced it because mine was all day sometimes! At times, pregnancy is just hard. However, there are many sweet spots that are beautiful and worth remembering this wonderful time in your life.

Do you remember how many weeks you were the first time you felt your baby move? I was 19 weeks, I took a self portrait, I absolutely love it and brings back incredible memories for me.

You are Beautiful

I can hear you, stop. I get it, you may not feel that way but what you are doing right now is pretty damn incredible and it is absolutely beautiful to see a woman go through pregnancy. Even the tough spots! I don’t know about you but I had some tough days but I learned there was someone under my skin that was evolving into this really amazing mother who is more resilient and stronger than I ever knew!

When It’s Gone, It’s Gone

I wasn’t quite sure if I were going to have maternity photos taken. I figured I might regret it and being that it was summertime in the Pacific Northwest I figured at least the environment would be stunning, even if I wasn’t. I don’t look at the photos the same way I did when I was pregnant, I saw a tired and big version of myself but now I see myself in a more graceful and forgiving light. I see one of the most wonderful times in my life and I can’t believe I made that little boy I see everyday! He is pretty awesome little man.

A Time for Bonding with Family

We get busy in our day to day schedules. This is a great opportunity to take this time of your life in and enjoy with your spouse and siblings and time for them to feel included in the process and important too!

You are Worth It

You are! Your body undegoing some incredible changes and making human is a lot of work! I know you’re tired and might not feel beautiful but I promise you, your family and you will look back at this time and will be thankful you froze these wonderful moments with your family. We spend so much time planning and getting photographs for weddings, engagements-this is just as important!

It’s Fun and Relaxed

If you find a photographer that can make you feel comfortable being yourselves your family can have so much fun and its totally just you all being real! One of the best things I hear when I am finished with a lifestyle maternity session is that it was so easy and relaxed! I give this advice to all of the families that come to me, just be yourself and you will be your most beautiful!
