In this blog post, I’ll share some of my favorite ideas for displaying photos on your wall so that you can enjoy your images in your home, not just on your social media. I firmly believe that jpegs (digital images) are meant for storage, and photos are meant to be printed!
But once you’ve taken all those beautiful photos, what’s the best way to display them in your home? Moreover, your investment in your family’s photography is meant to create a legacy that can be enjoyed over the years.
As an Oregon photographer for families, I know firsthand how precious family photos can be. They capture memories, milestones, and moments we want to treasure forever. Further, every family that I photograph gets access to a custom online store that showcases their photos in gorgeous print products. They are easy to order, see what they will look like on your walls, in photo albums, and more. Plus, they come directly to your home!
So, here are some of my favorite ideas for displaying photos on your wall!
A gallery wall is a beautiful and versatile way to display your favorite photos. It’s a great way to showcase various images from your family photography session. To create a gallery wall, you’ll need to gather a variety of frames in different sizes and styles. You can mix and match frames for a more eclectic look or stick with a cohesive style for a more traditional look.
Further, the image above showcases a more traditional look with the classic matted frames.
Before you start hanging your frames, it’s a good idea to lay them out on the floor first. This will give you an idea of how they’ll look together and allow you to experiment with different layouts. Once you’ve found a design you love, take a photo to refer to it later. Then, hang your frames on the wall using a level to ensure they’re straight.
If you love the idea of a gallery wall but don’t want to commit to hanging frames on the wall, a photo ledge might be an excellent option. A photo ledge is a long, narrow shelf that displays photos and other small decor items. They’re easy to install and a great way to switch up your display as your family grows and changes.
You’ll need a long, narrow shelf and some picture rails to create a photo ledge. You can find these at most home decor stores or online. Once you’ve installed your photo ledge, you can start filling it with your favorite photos. Next, mix and match frames or stick with a more cohesive look using frames in similar styles and colors.
A grid display is a modern and stylish way to showcase family photos. It’s a simple concept, but it can make a significant impact. You’ll need to gather a collection of frames in the same size and style to create a grid display. Then, you can choose frames in various colors and finishes or stick with a more cohesive look.
Once you have your frames, it’s time to start hanging them. To create a grid, start in the center of the wall and work your way out. Use a level to make sure your frames are straight and evenly spaced. A grid display is an excellent option for a hallway or staircase where you want to create a cohesive look.
A statement wall can be simple. Such as one large print in your primary bedroom above your bed or your living space above your couch or fireplace. Further, this wall can display many photos if you have an extensive collection of photos you want to showcase. Similar to the grid display, but more photos are featured. It can be a great way to create a bold and dramatic focal point in your home.
To create a statement wall, you’ll need to gather an extensive collection of frames in various sizes and styles. Then, mix and match frames for a more eclectic look, or stick with a more traditional style for a more cohesive look. Once you have your frames, start by hanging your largest frames in the center of the wall. Then, work your way out, filling in the gaps with smaller frames.
Moreover, if you want to create a statement wall with one image, use one large horizontal or vertical frame, and choose an image that you love. Then, hang it above a chair in the living area, entry wall, or above a couch, bed, or mantle.
A frameless display might be the perfect option if you’re looking for a minimalist and modern way to display your photos. My favorite frameless display is with a canvas print. The canvas display can be a collection of photos or an individual photo mounted directly on the wall without frames. It’s a great way to create a clean and simple look in your home.
You can print your pictures in various sizes, depending on the look you’re going for. Once you have your printed photos, mount them directly on the wall using adhesive strips or a nail using the mount on the back of the canvas.
One of the great things about a frameless display is that you can arrange your photos in any way you like. Using your photos, you can create a grid pattern or a random collage. The possibilities are endless!
In conclusion, many different ways to display your family photos on the wall exist. Whether you prefer a classic gallery wall or a modern frameless display, there’s an option that’s perfect for your style.
Take some time to experiment with different layouts and techniques, and don’t be afraid to mix and match frames and photos to create a look that’s unique to your family. Then, with some creativity and planning, you can turn your family photos into a beautiful and meaningful display in your home.
