Yellow wildflowers are mother nature’s gifts to us after a long dark winter. If your family loves the outdoors, and are adventurous, then this blog is for you.
You’ll learn when these beauties bloom and the best time of day to have family photos taken in these stunning wildflowers. As a Vancouver Washington family photographer, I love offering this incredible location to families who want to take advantage of this beautiful season in the PNW! In addition, it’s easy to get to and only about a hour drive from Portland Oregon. This family was photographed at the Tom McCall Preserve in Mosier, Oregon.
Typically peak season for balsam root wildflowers (the yellow flowers pictured) is mid to late April through mid May.
Depending on the weather and rain, they can last longer or have a quick season. This year has been very rainy, the flowers may have lasted a bit longer with more water. Although the rain can be dreary somedays, it has made the landscape very lush and the colors are vivid! When the sun does make an appearance, it is absolutely amazing.
In addition to the bright yellow colors there are vivid purple wildflowers and smaller sweet white flowers. While I was photographing this sweet family, we all just took it all in and enjoyed the spectacular view atop this plateau that looks down onto the Columbia River.
Have you ever heard of golden hour? It’s the hour before the sun sets and it creates the most spectacular warm golden light that is incredibly flattering to be photographed in. Creamy skin, breathtaking sun flares, and painted skies are vibrant at the end of the day.
You might be wondering, if the best time of day is evening, how will little kids do with evening family photos if it’s close to bedtime? I get this question all the time and I have your covered on my blog on how to prepare your kids for sunset family photos.
You can see this families entire gallery of photos from their wildflower session below.
These yellow wildflowers bloom for a short time. So, if you’re considering booking your next family photos here I recommend reaching out no later than February. In my tired-mom very busy opinion, I don’t think there is ever a time to book your families photos too early. You’ll have it scheduled and you won’t forget it.
As moms, we work so hard for our families and to treasure these fleeting moments. Let me help you preserve them with photos that are fun, easy, and laid back.
Your family should be photographed in an authentic way. Each family I work with is unique and I strive to create images that reflect who they really are.
“Jaime is such huge talent. Not only does she have a serious eye for lighting and detail, she makes the whole experience fun. My family usually finds getting photos stressful, but Jaime kept us relaxed and having a great time throughout our session. We had such a great time and that is reflected in our photos. We couldn’t be happier with the quality of Jaime’s work and we are looking forward to booking with Jaime again.” -Elise S.
Hey, I’m Jaime and my family loves all things outdoors and being adventurous! We love living in the country with our chickens, golden retriever, and two cats. I know how challenging it is to get in the camera with your kids. This season of tantrums, taxi driving, and teens will pass so quickly. I am here to help you preserve theses memories that go way too fast.
Cheers! I cant wait to meet your family!
