Family Session at Beacon Rock State Park

This adventurous family calls the Pacific Northwest one of their home bases, they have lived in many places all over the world. So, when they were going to be in town over the holidays they wanted to book their family photos in one of the most phenomenal locations-they chose to have their family photo shoot in the Columbia River Gorge. As a Portland family photographer, I am incredibly lucky to have multiple beautiful locations to choose from!

The wind, sun, and scenery made this families photo session so much fun! They braved the cold and embraced the wind. When we took a few minutes to warm up in our cars and move to another location in the park mom said, “the kids are really having fun!” Ah! My favorite words to hear from a family while we are in the middle of a family photo session. They moved, laughed, and hugged to stay warm, the entire session was about 45-60 minutes.

There are incredible views at this park, it is one of my favorite places to photograph families and its only about a 30-40 minute drive from Vancouver and Portland Oregon.

Many families wait until warmer months to have their families photos taken, I encourage families to do it when you can. If it’s on your mind, book it! Your family is changing so much as they grow, don’t miss an opportunity to have this time in your lives documented. I was so honored to take these family photos for them while they were here.

“If you’re thinking of calling Jaime for photos, definitely do it! Her images are gorgeous–I asked for lots of scenery in the photos and she did a perfect job of capturing both the family and the setting. This was a winter outdoor session, and she was willing to not only change the date so that we’d have good weather, but also brave the cold for us. It really was freezing and super windy, but she worked beautifully with it, and managed to make us look windblown in a glamorous way, and vigorous and refreshed instead of cold! On top of all that, Jaime magically made the cold and windy session fun for my kids! (Literally, afterward the three of them said, “Wow, that was really fun!”) She really knows kids–how to put them at ease, when they need a break, when they need to move, how to make them forget they’re being photographed. It’s funny because she really says very little during the session–she seems to pull it off effortlessly!
I loved Jaime’s clear communication both before and after the session. She was so professional, pleasant, and easy to work with–I have worked with several other family photographers (in other cities) and I’ve never had someone make the session so easy and pleasant, the appointment and payment and purchase process so smooth, and still take such gorgeous photos.
I have one of Jaime’s photos–of myself, not the kids!–as the lock screen on my phone, and I literally smile every time I see it. I never like photos of myself, so for me this is huge! In the past, family photos have been so stressful, but she took the stress right out of it–we look relaxed and happy in the photos and it’s because we really were! I’m planning to get family photos every year with Jaime.”
