You want a relaxed, simple, and easy newborn photo shoot experience. You don’t want to wait for hours for your baby to fall asleep or cooperate. Moreover, you do not want your baby in strange or uncomfortable posed positions. You want lifestyle newborn photos. You might be wondering, with all of the changes and fatigue that newborn days bring, how can you actually be relaxed for your newborn photo shoot? I am going to share 3 ways you can feel confident and relaxed for your upcoming newborn photos.
You can take a deep breath now right?! I recommend decluttering your master bedroom bed area, nursery, living room couch, and your kitchen. Let me clarify what I mean when I say to declutter, because if you are anything like me, I will have those areas spotless. It’s not necessary and I don’t want you stressing about that before your newborn photo shoot. The master bed area can be decluttered by making your bed, removing extra things that have piled up there. You can simply put it on the ground, it will likely not be photographed. That is how much effort you need to put into that area. Moreover, that is the same for your couch, kitchen, and nursery. Don’t be surprised if I move a few things for you upon my arrival, I promise, no judgements.
Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, kids are really the ones in control of the session, so why not let them be? Your newborn will lead the photo shoot as you are able to fulfill their needs whenever they want. Such as: feedings, diaper changes, napping, awake time, and if there is something they are not loving, we change it to make them comfortable.
Your toddlers and older siblings will be at ease getting many breaks and moving on from things that may not be working for them. If they aren’t into sitting on the bed, I will move onto another family member and come back to them. Most of the time, that works as they feel in control and free to move around and play. I will never ask your children to do something they aren’t enjoying. You can get more info about how to prepare your kids here.
Your photo shoot will feel like a friend stopping by to take your photos on a Sunday morning. You just had a baby and your body has gone through many changes. You wouldn’t have to dress up for your friend stopping by. Be comfortable, if you are not it can show in you photos. For example, grab your favorite pair of jeans, a soft maxi dress, or your favorite sweater. Of course, there are a few things I recommend avoiding for any photo shoot. Like, neon colors, hats, bright sneakers, and characters/graphics on shirts. Check out my blog on what to wear for your photo shoot and get some wardrobe inspiration from my Pinterest board!
In sum, a quick decluttering of a few areas are helpful but I typically help move a few things around when I arrive. Second, leave the worry about kids and babies behavior away from your special day. Kids are encouraged to play and be themselves. Last, follow some easy guidelines about what to wear but keep it simple. Dress comfortably.
